Christmas Without The Extra Waste
Christmas is all about family and celebration, but it also comes with a lot of extra waste. From food scraps and packaging to mountains of wrapping paper. The wrapping paper and glittery gift bags we use, most can’t be recycled. All the plastic packaging from toys and gifts, the waste quickly piles up. Choosing plain, recyclable paper or reusing gift bags and boxes makes a big difference.
Large Christmas meals mean often the leftovers end up in the bin. Planning meals carefully, storing extras properly and using leftovers can cut down on food waste while saving money too. Food waste is particularly harmful because when it decomposes in landfill, it produces a greenhouse gas called methane.
Recycling is one of the simplest yet most effective ways we can make Christmas more sustainable. Removing tape from wrapping paper, flattening boxes, and separating plastics ensures that what we put in the recycling bin can be recycled.
