Sustainable Food Waste Segregation
UK RECYCLING FOOD WASTE LEGISLATION PROPOSED FOR 2023
FUTURE PROOF YOUR BUSINESS WASTE TODAY!
Introducing the segregation of your food waste will help to reduce the environmental impact of your business and your sustainability targets, it’s simple and easy to do, but also does not cost the earth!
Segregating your food will increase your recycling rates and reduce your CO2 emissions. For most businesses, food waste is inevitable; but by segregating food waste in the most sustainable way, you will increase your recycling rates, and help towards zero waste to landfill.
WHY SEGREGATE YOUR FOOD WASTE?
- Reduced weight of your general waste bin, thus reducing the chance of incurring overweight lift charges.
- Segregated food waste can be converted into electricity, biogas, and nutrient-rich fertiliser for farmers, ensuring your food waste is always recycled in the best possible way and never sent to landfill.
- Specialist food waste fleet, ensuring no other waste streams contaminate the waste collection.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
An external bin will be provided for your food waste, food can be placed in the bin either as loose waste or in biodegradable bags before being placed in the bin, ready for collection. Our waste team will be able to provide advice on the frequency and potential cost savings you will achieve by adding a food waste bin to your waste collection.
WHAT IS ANAEROBIC DIGESTION?
Anaerobic digestion is a process through which bacteria break down organic matter- such as animal manure, wastewater, biosolids and food wastes in the absence of oxygen.
